New Short-tail Ryukins!

Yay! They're finally here! Yesterday, I went to my LFS and purchased some beautiful, calico, short-tail ryukins. They are in their quarantine tub for the moment, so I can keep an eye on them before I place them into their new, fully cycled aquarium. My LFS has kind of gone downhill over the years, and there was alot of ich in some of the tanks. So, I will be doing a few rounds of ich treatment (its just a simple one -- not too strong) for good measure.
The ryukins are small, but they don't seem stunned at all. I drew the conclusion that they are probably about 4 or 5 months old. Which is awesome because that means I still have some time to groom them (give them great quality food, water, etc., to allow them to grow into beautiful, healthy, and happy adult fish)!
Here are some pictures and a video of them in their quarantine tub -- the roundness of the tub distorts their figures a little bit, so don't get discouraged about the quality of these little chubs! They are great quality, and were a real steal! :)

Does anyone have any name suggestions? Let me know in the comments below! :)

Rescue!

Yesterday, I went to my local fish shop to look around, maybe get a few filter supplies. I hadn't been to this place in a while, but I remembered it pretty well. The way I remembered it was as a unique local aquarium store with healthy and happy fish. However, I think it has really gone downhill since then. There was at least one sick fish in every tank. It was a very sad sight to see. Especially when looking at the goldfish. About 95% of the goldfish had either ich or fin rot. I even saw one with a fish louse (a particularly bad, blood sucking parasite) on it! Today, I am going back there and I am going to rescue the fish with the louse on it, and see if I can save it. If I can, he or she will be going into an entirely separate aquarium as do not want to have even the slightest chance of infecting my other goldfish aquarium. I will also be purchasing two small calico ryukins from there who I could see were starting to develop ich. If I can cure them, they will be goldfish into a 40 gallon aquarium that is separate from all other tanks as well. Wish me luck!
Here are some examples of the diseases I was talking about (kinda gross and sad pictures):

Fin Rot

Fish Lice
Ich - not to be confused with breeding stars

The Crew

So,  I'm closing in on 550 followers on Instagram, so I thought I'd update/create a new blog. My goldie crew has changed over the past couple of years, and I'm excited to share some pictures with you all!  I will be getting some short tail ryukins in the near future, but I will most likely be moving soon and I don't want to get them until everything is settled. At the moment I have a couple of pet store rescues, and one baby ryukin in my main tank. They aren't as fancy as the previous fish I've had, but they are certainly just as cute and dear to my heart!
